White Album 2 Concert
White Album 2 Concert translation
Are you playing the loner? I found myself wondering why
(1:00)
Before I knew it, I was drawn to you more than anyone
How do I reflect my heart in this mirror?
If I keep feeling this hopeless love, will it show itself one day?
Until that hazy answer comes into view
My love won’t go anywhere
(2:00)
Rena Uehara: Bring it on, everyone!
The day I first spoke to you, and you turned to me
You were so dazzling that I couldn’t look straight at you
How do I trace myself into your heart?
(3:00)
If I keep feeling this unfulfilled love, will the day come when it appears?
Give me one little glimpse of that hazy answer
And I know my love will come alive
How do I reflect my heart in this mirror?
(4:00)
If I keep feeling this hopeless love, will it show itself one day?
Until that hazy answer comes into view
My love won’t go anywhere
(5:00)
Rena: Thank you!
How many days will pass, how many months
Before I can forget this memory?
(6:00)
It was a precious, happy memory
Of being so in love that I could barely breathe
Slender fingertips brushing back my hair
The tint hasn’t faded from the places we touched
To keep us from rewinding
To that day, that moment, when we met
I can never see you again, while we live under the same sky
(7:00)
It won’t disappear with time or distance
All I can do is flee from place to place, pursued by this memory
It was a precious, happy memory
Of being so in love that you were all I could see
I just nodded at whatever you said
With your eyes still gazing straight at me
To keep us from returning to the path that we shared
(8:00)
I will never see you again, while we live under the same sky
Slender fingertips brushing back my hair
The tint hasn’t faded from the places we touched
To keep us from rewinding to that day, that moment, when we met
(9:00)
I can never see you again, while we live under the same sky
Madoka Yonezawa: Hello, everyone! Good evening!
Captured by that shapeless thing called love
(10:00)
I know there is such a thing as love that stops your heart
The longing that you made me feel every time we met
I still believe in it—it will never disappear
Unending passion that never rests
Where does it come from? Where does it sleep?
The stars draw the path of my destiny, countless shining lights
There’s one thing I know now—I will never leave you
I close my eyes and hear my heartbeat, proof that I’m alive
(11:00)
Following the rhythm my heart pounds out
I’ll dance as I go! As far as it takes me…
Madoka: Yeah!
Even though I’m tired of hurting and being hurt
I still fall in love that takes my breath away
A world of darkness may await me on my path
But I know I’ll be able to keep my eyes bright
(12:00)
The stars turn the wheel of a single, flowing destiny
Dwelling in the hearts of people, strong and weak, hot and cold
Touch your chest and feel your heartbeat, proof that you’re alive
Following the melody the stars play
I’ll sing as I go! Forever and on…
Madoka: Guitar!
(13:00)
Madoka: Haruki-kun!
Madoka: Hello again, everyone! I’m Madoka Yonezawa!
Madoka: Thank you so much for coming to our White Album 2 Concert today!
(14:00)
Madoka: We put on White Album 2 shows in February, March, and April of this year,
Madoka: and more than half a year has passed since then,
Madoka: but it was still summer when we started discussing a White Album 2 hall concert. I remember thinking, “Wow, November is so far away…”
Madoka: But now, it feels like the time flew right by, and I’m so glad to see all of you! [chuckles]
Madoka: Now, as you all probably know, the song we just played appeared in the White Album 2 anime as well as the original game,
Madoka: sung by Setsuna at the School Festival—“Sound of Destiny.”
(15:00)
Madoka: And, for the next song, since the hall is so big, there’s something I’d like all of you to do. Would you mind?
Madoka: Go like, whoosh. [chuckles] Whoosh, like that.
Madoka: Starting from the right, go, whoooosh! That’s what I’d like you to do. [chuckles] Thank you!
Madoka: Your glow sticks are all so pretty, so I want everyone to lift up your glow sticks, or your hands if you don’t have glow sticks, like whoosh. Can we start from here?
Madoka: Can we practice? Let’s do it. Ready, go!
Madoka: Ahh! So pretty! [laughs] Thank you!
Madoka: Okay, during the instrumental break of this next song, I’m going to be dashing across the stage, so I’ll have to be careful not to trip…
(16:00)
Madoka: That’s where I’d like to do it! Thank you! You’re all wonderful.
Madoka: The next song is a new song from the White Album 2 mobile game, Dream Communication.
Madoka: It’s my first time singing this in front of everyone, and I don’t know how well I’ll be able to do it, but I’m going to put my whole heart into it. Please enjoy it.
Madoka: This is “I’m Fallin’ in Love”!
I want to laugh by your side more than anyone
I’m fallin’ in love now with you
Madoka: Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Keep it up!
(17:00)
I used to make fun of people
Who fell so hard in love they couldn’t see anything else
So I decided if I ever fell in love
I would be cool about it, but here I am
One casual word or gesture from you
Sends me into a panic
And you’re all I see
I fell in love with you and my world changed
I’m changing too, transforming
I want to laugh by your side more than anyone
(18:00)
If I could just get these feelings through to you
My own clumsiness in love surprises me
I get so sad and frustrated over it
What am I supposed to say now?
How am I supposed to look at you, my friend?
My own awkward words and gestures
I want you to notice them all
(19:00)
But you never do
Fall in love and your world will change
You’ll change, too, and then
As I want to laugh by your side more than anyone
I hope you’ll let me be the one you love
Madoka: Here we go! One, two, three!
Madoka: Yay! That was gorgeous! You’re the best! Thank you!
I fell in love with you and my world changed
I’m changing too, transforming
(20:00)
I want to laugh by your side more than anyone
If I could just get these feelings through to you
Madoka: Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Madoka: Thank you so much!
(21:00)
I really let my guard down, thinking you were boring
But now, somehow, you’re all I see
My feelings of affection pile up softly like the snow
The day may come when we choose our own dreams and part
But I believe we will reach the same future
(22:00)
The affection in my heart turns to love
You don’t spoil me, there are no words I want to hear
But if you hold me tight and want me, that’s all I need
My feelings of love pile up softly like the snow
(23:00)
As we cross over these walls, even if we hurt each other
We’ll feel all kinds of happiness together with the pain
Our loving hearts become one
(24:00)
Our feelings of love pile up softly like the snow
The day may come when we choose our own dreams and part
But I believe we will reach the same future
My loving heart becomes eternal
(25:00)
Akari Tsuda: Hey, the big day is finally here! Is everyone excited for it?
Akari: Thank you! Thank you. I’ve also really been looking forward to it. This is our first time doing a concert in a big hall like this,
Akari: and with this amazing new band and these string players joining the performance, I’ll admit I was a little nervous during rehearsals.
(26:00)
Akari: There have been times when I got so nervous I forgot the lyrics, and at first, I was seriously worried about what would happen if I couldn’t remember the lyrics or the melody,
Akari: but right now, standing here onstage, feeling your warmth all around me, I’m having a really amazing time singing. Thank you. Thank you.
Akari: I want to sing each song with the care it deserves, while I savor the experience of being here with all of you who have come together through White Album 2.
Akari: Now, I’d like to sing the next song, “My Heart is Always With You.” Please enjoy it.
The sky looks like it’s about to cry
(27:00)
A cold wind tells me snow is on the way
I don’t want to leave… but without saying a word
I let go of your hand and wave goodbye
I watch and watch as you vanish into the distance
Even though anxiety bears down on me
(28:00)
My heart will always be with you
Filling these lonely nights with happiness
My heart will always be with you, so I want you to know
That even when I can’t see you, I’ll be okay
(29:00)
Under the weeping sky
The cold wind that spoke to me passes me by
I squeeze what’s left of your warmth tightly
Shut it away in my pocket so I don’t lose it
My heart will always, always be with you
Keeping me company on lonely nights
(30:00)
My heart will always, always be with you, so I know
That even when I can’t see you, I can laugh and say, “I’m fine”
The weakness I hide by pretending to be fine
(31:00)
If showing you would mean losing you, I’ll stay and keep pretending
Maybe your heart feels me close by
And you’re looking up at the snowy sky, feeling the same way I do
My heart will always be with you, so I want you to know
That even when I can’t see you, I’ll be okay
(32:00)
Akari: Thank you.
(33:00)
At the café where we always met, the corner store where we always stopped
Somehow, at some point, I stopped remembering you
The day that we parted, you promised me
That, in our next life, you would stay with me forever
Those final, gentle lies are my greatest treasure
(34:00)
Even now I feel like my wounded heart is healing
The snowy sky is painfully beautiful, because it’s your sky, too
I could hate and envy the one you chose
But no matter how I try, I could never be her
(35:00)
The day that we parted, you promised me
You would never forget that you loved me most of all
Those final, gentle lies will be my treasure forever
Even now I feel like my wounded heart is healing
(36:00)
I look up to the sky and pray that you will always be happy
As I smiled and nodded at your lies, I was the biggest liar of all
(37:00)
Those final, gentle lies are my greatest treasure
Even now I feel like my wounded heart is healing
The snowy sky is painfully beautiful, because it’s your sky, too
I’ll never forget your gentle lies
(38:00)
Rena: Thank you.
I loved you so truly, so deeply
Why did the day come that parted us?
(39:00)
My wish is still for you to forget everything
The constant pain I feel boring deep into my chest
The place that once held my feelings for you
Will never be filled again
(40:00)
I love you so truly, so deeply
Why did the day come that parted us?
I’m still waiting for your return, just like always
I’ve called your name over and over
Even in my dreams you never look back at me
(41:00)
You’re never coming back
I’m still looking for the answer, the reason we parted
You called my name over and over
Even in my dreams, I never looked back at you
(42:00)
I just ran away
The constant frigid pain I feel deep in my chest
Some day, you’ll bring it warmth again
I believe you will
(43:00)
Rena: Thank you.
Akari, Madoka: Hi there! [laugh]
Madoka: Since we’re in Osaka. Actually, all three of us are from Kansai, aren’t we?
Rena: Perfect hosts. Yes.
Rena, Akari: Right. [chuckle]
Madoka: Maybe I didn’t need to say that. Does everyone know that already?
Rena: They might know. [chuckle]
Madoka: Now, Tsuda-chan, say something funny.
Akari: Huh? Wait, wait wait wait. Oh, you scared me. I’m staying quiet.
Madoka: Say something! I’m just messing with you. [laughs] Yes.
Rena: Yes, thank you!
Madoka: It’s amazing how many people are here. Thank you!
Akari: Wow, so pretty!
Madoka: Super pretty! It looks like a starry sky, doesn’t it?
(44:00)
Rena: It does! The people up front are laughing.
Madoka: With all of these glow sticks, I wonder… Maybe they don’t want to do it again?
Akari: Let’s do it, let’s do it! Why not?
Madoka: Do you want to? Oh, yay! Let’s do it!
Madoka: Now, if you’ll take the lead—The lead?—Take the lead with the people in front, like “Ready, go.”
Rena: You want me to do it? All right, all right, is everyone ready? Start from the front. Go!
Madoka, Akari, Rena: Wow! That’s gorgeous! Amazing! Thank you!
Rena: Beautiful.
Madoka: Right?
Madoka: Next, Tsuda-chan, would you do it from top to bottom?
Rena: Top to bottom might be a little tricky.
Akari: All right. We haven’t done that before. From the top?
Madoka: Might be a little tricky. Yes.
Akari: We’ll just have to see. All right, ready?
(45:00)
Akari: Starting from level 3. Go!
Madoka: [laughs] Nice and mellow! They’re doing it! Ah, so pretty!
Akari: But they’re doing it. You’re all so nice! Thank you! Wow!
Akari: Thank you!
Madoka: Thank you!
Rena: Thank you! Amazing.
Madoka. Wow, that was amazing. Wonderful.
Madoka: I think we’re going to see another White Album 2 wave this winter.
Rena: Definitely. A massive wave.
Akari: Definitely.
Madoka: So, our outfits are different from the daytime show.
Rena: They are. We decided to change.
Madoka: Oh, we’re getting a request to spin around.
Rena: Huh? Should I? Okay, I’ll spin. Should I do a nice pretty turn?
Madoka: “Whoosh.”
Rena: Here I go. Whoosh!
Madoka: Ooh, fancy! [laughs]
Rena: Yeah? [chuckles] Thank you! [chuckles]
Madoka: Okay, me next? [chuckles] Here I go! Wait, I’ll put this down.
Akari: Here.
(46:00)
Madoka: Here I go! Ta-da!
Rena: Adorable!
Akari: Your skirt flutters out really nicely. It’s cute.
Rena: It does.
Madoka: Thank you. See, I thought I’d go with a white dress with Setsuna in mind.
Akari: All right. I don’t know if I’ll do this right, but here I go! Here I go. I’m doing it now.
Madoka: The shyness is very cute.
Akari: This is embarrassing!
Akari: Even after doing it twice I’m not used to it. The embarrassment wins.
Rena: You’re not—you’re not used to it. Well, you’re fine just like that.
Madoka: That’s right. Now, the eighth episode of the White Album 2 anime was shown on Tokyo MX yesterday…
Madoka: Did anyone watch it? Thank you!
Akari, Rena: Wow, thank you!
Madoka: Now, there have been some gimmicks added that are different from the game, to make you go, “Oh, I think something changed a bit here…”
(47:00)
Rena: The staff had some fun.
Madoka: I thought… Yes.
Rena: There are a few devices set up to convey more love.
Madoka: Say, the people singing at the very beginning of Episode 7—[chuckles] Could it be?
Rena: Yes, as an opener for Setsuna-san, for our senior,
Rena: we sang “Free and Dream.” As an opening act for the festival.
Akari: As an opener.
Madoka: Aww! Aww, you shouldn’t have!
Rena: Thank you!
Akari: Thank you!
Madoka: You were doing this, right?
Rena: We were.
Rena: Should I be over here? Is that a set thing? I’m not sure.
Akari: Oh, maybe. I don’t know.
Madoka: Okay, go!
Rena: “Spread our wings and FLY!” We did it like that. Thank you.
Akari: “—wings and FLY!” Thank you.
Rena: Could everybody tell?
Madoka: Oh, they all did! Very impressive. That’s our fans for you.
Rena: Everyone did. Very impressive. Definitely. Thank you.
(48:00)
Madoka: So, for this concert, we’re performing plenty of songs from White Album 2, but, in fact, we have a special guest here with us.
Madoka: As you know, Kazusa performs various classical pieces in the White Album 2 anime, and this is the woman who played them in reality: Asuka Matsumoto! Take it away!
(49:00)
(50:00)
(51:00)
(52:00)
(53:00)
Madoka: Thank you! Allow me to reintroduce the pianist, Asuka Matsumoto.
Madoka: The piece she just played was Liebesträume No. 3, by Liszt. I was listening off in the wings, and my chest was feeling warm from how moving it was.
Asuka Matsumoto: Thank you.
Madoka: Now, you’re in charge of playing the classical pieces that Kazusa plays within the White Album 2 anime. Could you tell us what recording those was like?
(54:00)
Asuka: Yes, the pieces were actually recorded in a classical concert hall.
Madoka: I see. And, I wonder if you would tell us about any difficulties you might have had.
Asuka: Well, so there are scenes in which each of the pieces gets played.
Madoka: Right. Right.
Asuka: I would hear from the staff what kind of setting Kazusa was playing in for each of those scenes,
Asuka: and I kept that image of my head while I played, which was very enjoyable.
Madoka: Ah, so that’s how the pieces are created.
Asuka: Yes. Why? What is it?
Madoka: Now, could I ask you one more question? [chuckles] Why are people laughing? [chuckles]
Madoka: What do you think of Kazusa as a character?
Madoka: [chuckles] Yes, she’s definitely cool. With her black hair fluttering out behind her.
Asuka: Yes, I think she’s quite cool.
(55:00)
Asuka: I watched a little bit of the anime myself,
Madoka: Uh-huh.
Asuka: and the scene where she’s like “Bam!” through the window, that made my heart jump a little.
Madoka: Right, the scene where she’s sort of supporting Haruki-kun, with the window open.
Madoka: That scene is definitely a notable scene. Thank you.
Madoka: Now, I’d like to have another one-song session, with piano and vocals and—and?!
Madoka: Haruki-kun, of course! On guitar, not Haruki-kun, but Hideto Goto! If you please!
Madoka: Yes, Goto-san and his wonderful goatee. [chuckles] Now, we’re going to play a song created by Setsuna, Kazusa, and Haruki-kun together.
(56:00)
Madoka: This is “The Magic of Time.”
Suffering and smiling go hand in hand
When I’m with you, I can believe that much
(57:00)
Even to a bare and withered tree, miracles can happen
Look—so much white light makes cherry blossoms bloom in the middle of winter
I know my wish will come true, I’ll close my eyes
And speak the magic of time once again, from zero
(58:00)
I’ve spent so many restless days, but now
I feel I could look at the world with kinder eyes
Even to a bare and withered tree, miracles can happen
Look—shining inside me, cherry blossoms bloom in the middle of winter
(59:00)
I know my wish will come true, because it will get through
If I speak the magic of time once again, from here
A future with you falls down, glittering
(1:00:00)
Forever and ever I want to cherish this
I know my wish will come true, I’ll close my eyes
And speak the magic of time once again, from zero
(1:01:00)
Once again, from zero
Madoka: Thank you.
Madoka: Thank you very much, Hideto Goto! Now, I’d like to ask for one more performance from Matsumoto-san.
Madoka: She and the string players are going to play one of the BGM tracks. “As it Was Then.”
(1:02:00)
(1:03:00)
(1:04:00)
Madoka: Thank you!
Madoka: I’m sure there were a lot of people just now who heard that and found themselves reliving the scene in which it appeared in their heads. Matsumoto-san, what was it like playing it for today’s daytime show, and the evening show?
Asuka: I enjoyed it a lot. The glow sticks really caught my attention…
Madoka: [chuckles] They are very pretty!
(1:05:00)
Asuka: Where do they sell them?
Madoka: There are all those different colors.
Asuka: Where do they sell them? Ah, got it.
Madoka: It sounds like they sell them at Don Quixote.
Madoka: By all means, go and purchase some from Don Quixote. All right. Now, let’s have one more big round of applause for Asuka Matsumoto! Thank you!
Madoka: I’m all alone! [laughs] Ahhh!
Madoka: Okay, while the band members are all getting ready—oh, band members!
Madoka: Oh, phew. I’m not alone. Okay, while the band members are all getting ready, should I…? Should I do it? Really? Should I?
(1:06:00)
Madoka: All right, there are some parts where I’ll need all of you to help me.
Madoka: Is that okay? So, some of you might not be aware of this,
Madoka: but there’s this one segment in the White Album 2 Fan Club Radio show called “Make Madoka Yonezawa an Idol.” It’s kind of a weird one, [chuckles]
Madoka: and this is the intro for that. So, I’m going to say “a perfect circle,” and when I say “perfect,” I want you to put your arms up in a circle and say “circle.” Okay?
Madoka: And at the very end, I go, “Woohoo!” And I want everyone to say it together.
(1:07:00)
Madoka: When I say “Ready, go!”, can all of you respond with “Woohoo!”?
Madoka: Thank you! Okay, here I go.
Madoka: Here I go.
Madoka: Apple cheeks and a takoyaki smile! You and me make a perfect circle! Thank you! Madoka Yonezawa, a snow-white angel born in Osaka! Let’s join our hearts in a ring and build her together!
Madoka: I’m singin’ in the White Album 2 Concert at the Tokyo International Forum today! I’m gonna have a lotta fun with y’all!
Madoka: Ready, go! Woohoo! Thank you so much!
(1:08:00)
Madoka: [chuckles] What? What?! I’m getting antsy here! [laughs]
Madoka: Thank you again. You’re all playing along so well, doing the wave and everything. I can really feel your warmth.
Madoka: Now, please enjoy our next song. “White Album.”
Though we spend day after day out of touch
(1:09:00)
Our feelings are always right there beside us
We claim we’ll be fine even if we can’t see each other
But our brave words are always mixed with sighs
The treasure we left in the passing seasons
It’s a puzzle missing its most important piece
Just as the white snow covers the streets
(1:10:00)
We can fill up the blanks in this album
When I feel like the weight of loneliness might break me
Passing anxious days all on my own
You tell me it’s all right, pat my shoulder,
And bring me back around with your smile
(1:11:00)
Even if we separate, I’ll have your words
Strange as it seems, that’s enough to make me happy
The fleeting snow envelops my secret thoughts
Dyeing the pure white pages of this album
(1:12:00)
The treasure we left in the passing seasons
It’s a puzzle missing its most important piece
Just as the white snow covers the streets
We can fill up the blanks in this album
(1:13:00)
Madoka: Thank you!
We like different colors and clothes, our personalities are nothing like each other
But for some reason we laugh at the same things, and fall for the same people
(1:14:00)
It was so funny watching you drink your coffee
Taking the bitterness to play the adult
This feeling I have in my chest is very much like love
I think of you before I go to sleep
This feeling I have in my chest really is just like love
From the bottom of my heart, I’m glad I met you
(1:15:00)
The two of us dream different dreams, we walk two different paths
The coffee I drank to play the adult
I never go a morning without it now
The feeling I had in my chest then was very much like love
I looked for you above all else
The feeling I had in my chest then really was love
(1:16:00)
From the bottom of my heart, I’m glad I met you
Remember the day when I told you, if you were a boy
I would choose you? You blushed and grumbled
I’ll never forget it
The feeling I had in my chest then was very much like love
(1:17:00)
I wanted to know you more than anyone else
The feeling I had in my chest then really was love
From the bottom of my heart, I’m thankful I met you
Akari: The next song I’m going to sing was my debut song.
(1:18:00)
Akari: I really always loved singing, from the time I was little. I always hoped I could become a singer, and I finally realized that dream.
Akari: I learned that singing isn’t always fun, there are difficulties as well,
Akari: and for all of you gathered here in this concert hall, I want to sing Akari Tsuda’s first song, which brought me so many new meetings through music.
Akari: I’m going to sing it with all my heart. Please enjoy it. “Twinkle Snow.”
(1:19:00)
We talked and talked until it got dark
Beneath a clouded winter sky
I don’t know when it started, but every time we part
I just want to stay with you a little longer—which really means…
(1:20:00)
Softly, the snow piles up on the feelings of love that I found tonight
Will I find this dear feeling again tomorrow?
I want to shine more brightly for you than I did today
As I gaze up at the flickering sky, the snow kisses me gently
(1:21:00)
If you find a girlfriend, somewhere along the line
Will you keep talking to me like this?
Some day, your girlfriend will come first
I hate the thought of you leaving me—which really means…
(1:22:00)
Softly, the snow piles up on the feelings of love that I found tonight
Will I find this half-weeping feeling again tomorrow?
I want to shine more brightly for you than I did today
As I gaze up at the flickering sky, I’ll kiss the snow back, gently
(1:23:00)
I’m growing up as I discover all these feelings
The snow will wrap me up protectively until the budding season
(1:24:00)
Twinkling, the snow piles up on all the feelings I found this year
Come spring, a new me will start to sprout
Hoping to shine more brightly for you than I did this year
As I gaze up at the flickering sky
I’ll make my wish to the snow, pray to the snow, kiss the snow, gently
(1:25:00)
Akari: Thank you.
(1:26:00)
A flock of birds takes off from the earth
Where is my lonely heart supposed to go?
I still have the kisses we shared that day
Our matching heartbeats as we held each other tightly
The summer I spent in love with you is over
And the memories it brought are returning to the sky
You were so dazzling and kind, and I loved you
I’m still searching for your voice and your dreams
(1:27:00)
Stay just a little longer, just like this
Only the lights adorning the weekend streets
Wrap up my heart as it bleeds through
Lovers sway in silhouette
Before I know it, longing overtakes me
(1:28:00)
I think of the last autumn I spent with you
Of the footsteps long gone, of your hands, of tomorrow
Being happy by your side was everything
The confusion and loneliness still show themselves
But soon enough I’ll forget it all, just like this
I call your dear name, but the wind just sweeps it away
(1:29:00)
Taking me far, far from the past, from that day
Some day—I know it—I’ll wait for winter
Follow my memories back to this place
More than anyone, more than ever
I’ll sing of you, even if the words never reach you
Feel what I feel and and believe in a new time
(1:30:00)
Rena: Thank you.
Rena: I feel very lucky, getting to sing all of these White Album 2 songs in this beautiful venue.
Rena: Also, for the White Album 2 anime—I was the one who sang the theme song for the game, and with the anime, I yet again had the privilege
(1:31:00)
Rena: of singing the theme song, “Love Out of Reach ’13,” and I’m very happy for that.
Rena: With all of you listening, it became a very precious song to me, one that I hope I can keep singing for a long time to come.
Rena: Now, I’d like to sing the next song. It’s the ending theme for the White Album 2 anime.
Rena: The song is called “On Saying Goodbye.” It was newly written for the anime specifically,
(1:32:00)
Rena: and the music and lyrics were both composed by Naoya Shimokawa. It really brings together a lot of the feelings of one’s youth, it’s very bittersweet,
Rena: and that’s what makes it so appealing, so I hope you’ll pay attention to the lyrics, too.
Rena: Here it is. “On Saying Goodbye.”
Your innocent voice still hasn’t faded from my ears
Those happy days hid quiet feelings
(1:33:00)
But I never doubted this happiness
Never learned the meaning of the word “goodbye”
This isn’t a dream—in this world
The days when I just cried and cried aloud
Are nowhere to be found
Hey, I wonder whether the answer lay in some place we could never reach
If only I’d never met you, I wouldn’t feel this pain
(1:34:00)
The whispered voices of lovers warm the town
Those happy days hid deep sadness, too
But this happiness kept me from seeing anything else
I got carried away and left the word “goodbye” behind
I want to believe that I’m still in a dream
(1:35:00)
Even though I’ve woken up from it by now
The days when I just laughed and laughed are nowhere to be found
But there’s no mistaking that place—the two of us were there with smiling faces
If only I’d never met you, I wouldn’t feel this pain
(1:36:00)
Winter comes again, not for us, but for lovers
This isn’t a dream—in this world
The days when I just cried and cried aloud
Are nowhere to be found
Hey, I wonder whether the answer lay -n some place we could never reach
That winter when I realized I couldn’t stand to be without you
(1:37:00)
Rena: Thank you.
Rena: It really feels like barely any time has passed, but this next song is going to be the final song of our White Album 2 Concert.
(1:38:00)
Rena: [chuckles] Thank you! Truly, thank you. I know all of you, Tsuda-chan and Yone-chan and I and everyone really looked forward to today,
Rena: so we’re very sad to see it end, but this song has a lot of emotions packed into it, it’s a very passionate song for finally showing how you feel.
Rena: Every time I sing it, I feel like I need to make sure everything fully gets through to you all.
Rena: So I’m going to put my whole heart into this last song, and all my feelings of gratitude for all of you.
Rena: Here it is. “Closing ’13.”
(1:39:00)
Still clinging to days that won’t come back—one day, yes, one day
Before my weak heart could be caught, I softly pushed you away
Ah, this feeling hurts too much
Who are you? Where have you been hiding?
Terrified and hanging my head
(1:40:00)
The real me has been waiting
That season again—the night sky was white, and you were there
I was glad you didn’t touch me, but my heart ached
I don’t want to let you go, I don’t want to leave you, but I’ve been on the verge of giving up
I can’t fall in love any more—the pain of loss is too great to bear
Still clinging to days that won’t come back—some day, yes, some day
(1:41:00)
All I need is to have you beside me, even though I can’t say it
Rena: Thank you, everyone!
Now, I have to hold my head up and walk
The real me has to realize
That season again—I’m looking up at this same sky
I know what’s been hurt can never go back to the way it was
(1:42:00)
But I don’t want to let you go, I don’t want to leave you—I’m not giving up now
Your heart might be hurt, but I can’t lie to the way I feel
Find me one of these days, find me with a smile on my face
Just stay with me and tell me that you’ll never leave me alone again
(1:43:00)
Still clinging to days that won’t come back—I know, yes, I know
If I don’t accept how I felt that day, I won’t be able to move on
I don’t want to let you go, I don’t want to leave you—my single wish
Is to make you know I love you, even though I refuse to say it
Rena: Thank you, everyone! Thank you for being here today!
(1:44:00)
Rena: Thank you! Thank you so much!
(1:45:00)
(1:46:00)
The powder snow falls gently from the sky
Hurting my heart as I catch it in my palms
Are you standing still somewhere, watching it?
Looking up at the sky, do you remember?
As you walked across the snow, looking so happy
You were truly lovely to me
(1:47:00)
I still remember how white the snow was that day
And the warmth of our lips as they touched for the first time
I still love you
The powder snow falls onto me
(1:48:00)
Like your kindness and warmth
As you talked with me, looking so delighted
I loved you dearly with all my heart
I still dream of the white world I saw that day
I haven’t forgotten the touch of your cold fingertips
(1:49:00)
I still love you
I still remember how white the snow was that day
And the warmth of our lips as they touched for the first time
You’re just like the powder snow, pure and beautiful
I pray to the snow that I can be the same
(1:50:00)
I still love you
Madoka: Thank you for the encore! That was “Powder Snow.” Now, I’d like to ask all the band members to take the stage! Come on out!
Madoka: And now, I’d like to introduce the band that brought such amazing energy to today’s concert with their incredible performance!
(1:51:00)
Madoka: On drums, Yoshitaka Shirane! On bass, Yoshinobu Takeshita!
Madoka: On keyboard and piano, our bandleader, Shuntaro Kobayashi!
Madoka: On guitar, Hideto Goto!
Madoka: On backing vocals, percussion, and flute, Nona*!
Madoka: And our string players, from left to right—on violin, Sayuri Yano!
Madoka: Toshihiro Takai! On viola, Shoko Miki! On cello, Masutami Endo!
(1:52:00)
Madoka: Now, it’s time to call those two back out! Rena-chan, Tsuda-chan!
Akari, Rena: Hey! Over here, everyone! Thank you! We’re out here with you!
Akari, Rena: Thank you!
Akari: Thank you, everyone up in the second and third levels, too!
(1:53:00)
Madoka: Wow, amazing! What a surprise that was!
Rena: Was everyone surprised?
Akari: Success!
Rena: Yay!
Madoka: Nice.
Rena: Everyone greeted us so warmly, it made me really happy. Thank you so much!
Madoka: So, the White Album 2 Concert had a daytime part and a night-time—a night-time part?
Madoka: And a night-time part. I was thinking each one of us could give some of our thoughts on the whole thing.
(1:54:00)
Madoka: You want to go first, Tsuda-chan?
Akari: Yes. Yes, I’ll go first.
Akari: Well, once we got started, it seems like the first and second shows went by in the blink of an eye. Did everyone have fun?
Akari: Thank you. I’m really sad to have to leave, so if it were allowed, I’d actually like to do a third show.
Madoka: [chuckles] Late-night?
Akari: A late-night show! No one would be able to go home. We’d better not.
Akari: White Album 2 is really special and important to me, because it gave me the opportunity to make my debut as a singer.
Akari: I’ve been singing my debut song, “Twinkle Snow,” for almost three and a half years now, as well as some new songs.
Akari: I believe the fact that I can deliver all of these songs is because all of you love White Album 2 so much. Thank you for everything.
(1:55:00)
Akari: I would also like to keep bringing the world of While Album 2 to you with love, so I hope you’ll keep supporting me. Thank you so much for today.
Madoka: I was really looking forward to today’s concert, myself. I think a lot of you came from various faraway places for this,
Madoka: but is there anyone from abroad—whoa, really? That’s amazing! Thank you.
Rena: Amazing. That’s amazing. Thank you.
Madoka: And, anyone who came to both the daytime and the night-time shows? Wow. Wait, that many?
Rena: That many of you? That’s so cool! Thank you.
Madoka: Wow, I wasn’t expecting that. Well, getting to do this, to be involved with something that’s this deeply loved, and to sing for you in this beautiful venue
(1:56:00)
Madoka: makes me feel very lucky. I’m going to try the best I can to keep delivering White Album 2 to you, so please keep supporting me!
Madoka: Thank you so much for today!
Rena: Thank you for gathering here for this concert today. White Album 2…
Rena: The people who love it have such enormous passion. Whenever you talk about it, it’s super clear to us that you love it with your whole heart.
Rena: So, we as singers—well, Yone-chan is a voice actress—we feel a sense of responsibility when we sing, to respond to those feelings in kind.
(1:57:00)
Rena: Getting to spend this wonderful time today with all of you who love White Album 2, in this beautiful concert hall, was a lot of fun.
Rena: Did all of you enjoy it? Thank you.
Madoka: Now, this next one really is our very last song, but it’s hard to leave, isn’t it?
Rena: I don’t want it to end. Yes.
Madoka: [chuckles] We just have to believe in a next time. Let’s do the last one.
Madoka: Should we all say the title together?
Madoka, Rena, Akari: One, two, three! “Love Out of Reach”!
(1:58:00)
Are you playing the loner? I found myself wondering why
Before I knew it, I was drawn to you more than anyone
How do I reflect my heart in this mirror?
If I keep feeling this hopeless love, will it show itself one day?
(1:59:00)
Until that hazy answer comes into view
My love won’t go anywhere
Rena: Hey! Hey! Hey!
The day I first spoke to you, and you turned to me
You were so dazzling that I couldn’t look straight at you
(2:00:00)
How do I trace myself into your heart?
If I keep feeling this unfulfilled love, will the day come when it appears?
Give me one little glimpse of that hazy answer
And I know my love will come alive
(2:01:00)
Madoka: This is the last one! Let’s put our hearts into it!
How do I reflect my heart in this mirror?
If I keep feeling this hopeless love, will it show itself one day?
Until that hazy answer comes into view
My love won’t go anywhere
(2:02:00)
Madoka: Thank you so much for being here today!
Rena: White Album 2 is the best!
Madoka: Okay, let’s all jump together for the end!
Madoka, Rena, Akari: Ready, go! Thank you!
(2:03:00)
Madoka, Akari: Thank you!
Rena: Thank you so, so much! It was a blast!
Akari: We’ll see each other again some time! Thank you!
Rena: Thank you!
It was really intense.
I cried like four times.
I was surprised by how much crying I did. Being immersed in the world of the game like that was so much fun.
I really couldn’t stop crying. I’ve been to the other shows before this, but this one was the best.
(2:04:00)
I came here from Kyoto, and the set list was really exactly my ideal, all the songs where I went, “I’d like them to play that, I want to hear that live.” That was awesome,
and it also made me remember all those times in the game that made my heart hurt.
I got the feeling they really spent a lot on their backing band.
The pianist was amazing.
Adding in the strings took it to a wonderful new level.
Thank you, to the three of you.
The emceeing between songs was a lot of fun, too. I got the sense that they’d worked out how to keep up our interest and enjoyment the whole time.
I’m here from Shizuoka. I was finally able to win the ticket lottery for today, and I was really happy to get to join in. Getting to hear the three singers was very satisfying.
They sounded absolutely amazing.
It was incredible!
Incredible!
(2:05:00)
Madoka: Hello, this is Madoka Yonezawa! Today is going to be amazing!
Rena: The big day is here! We’re finally playing a hall concert.
Akari: We’re watching from out in the audience right now, but I’m already about to cry from how amazing it is.
Madoka: It’s almost time. I’m ready to sing!
(2:06:00)
Rena: We’re just moments away.
Akari: I’m nervous.
Madoka: See you later!
Madoka: Let’s rock this! Yeah!
(2:07:00)
Madoka: So much just happened, it really doesn’t feel like it’s over yet,
Akari: No kidding.
Madoka: but it’s done. I guess once I get home it’ll sink in. “Oh, it’s really over.”
Akari: It’s done. Maybe I’ll feel it once I’m in the bath.
Rena: It felt like a dream. Thank you for such a great time.
Madoka, Akari: Thank you.
I think we put on a really fun show. Thank you.
I had no idea a single glow stick could change colors like that.
I wish I could have made everyone do a wave like Yone-chan did.
(2:08:00)
It was an incredible show. So much fun. Thank you.
Feeling that excitement all around us was awesome. I wished I had a glow stick, too.
The feeling from the audience was so warm, and I had a very good time. Thank you.
It was a blast. I want to go like this with a bunch of glow sticks.
It was fun. Thank you.
I had a very good time.
The songs are all great, and I came to love them a lot through rehearsing and playing them in the show, so I’m going to miss them now that it’s over.

(04:00)

Shuntaro: Can I actually try one more time? [laughs] That’s good. That’s fine.

Akari: What do you think? Good shape, yes, yes.
Rena: All right, here we go.
Akari: Here we go.
(07:00)
Madoka: Wrong! Wrong again!
Rena: Tee-hee!
Madoka, Rena, Akari: Yeah!
